US sanctions Rwanda military, 4 officials aiding M23 in DRC.
The United States has sanctioned the Rwandan military and four senior officials for providing "direct operational support" to M23 rebels in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Treasury Department identified Chief of Defence Staff Mubarakh Muganga and others as key figures aiding the group's territorial gains. This action follows violations of a December peace agreement. While Kinshasa praised the measures as a victory for sovereignty, Rwanda dismissed the move as "unjust," claiming it distorts the reality of the conflict.
