1.75M A&E patients wait over 12 hours
In England during 2025, an analysis revealed that one in ten patients, or 1.75 million people, spent over 12 hours in major A&E units, a situation only marginally improved from 2024. The Royal College of Nursing has expressed concerns about the devastating impact of these long waits and corridor care, where patients are treated in makeshift areas. Health Secretary Wes Streeting acknowledged the issue, stating the NHS was falling short and committed to addressing it.
