Adults in England eating 22 packets crisps worth salt daily

The British Heart Foundation reports that adults in England ingest 8.4g of salt each day. This figure is 40% higher than the 6g limit advised. That daily intake equals the salt in 22 bags of crisps. Excessive salt, often hidden in prepared foods, raises blood pressure. One charity is urging government action to reduce salt levels in manufactured foods. Lowering sodium to WHO levels could prevent 135,000 cases of heart disease in 14 years.
