£89bn grid upgrade: Why UK households face higher bills
Households and industry rely on major grid expansion to meet rising demand and clean energy goals. The energy system operator on Tuesday lifted its estimate for transmission and infrastructure work in the 2030s to £89bn, up 50% from earlier forecasts. Plan covers 43 projects and includes 16 options not in original forecast including links for Celtic Sea wind farms across south Wales and south-west England.
