Pound reaches five-week low as shares drop
People with pensions and savings faced losses after British shares, bonds and the pound all moved down on Friday. Prime Minister Keir Starmer came under growing pressure after health minister Wes Streeting quit and rivals weighed leadership bids following poor local election results. Sterling touched $1.3335, while the FTSE 250 index lost 1.1% and 10-year gilt yields climbed near 5.11%.
