Kent council questioned over £40M savings claim
Kent County Council, controlled by Reform UK since May, has been accused of blocking scrutiny after refusing for five months to provide evidence supporting claims of saving £40m by cancelling renewable energy projects. Labour MP Polly Billington submitted a Freedom of Information request seeking documentation on how the savings were calculated. The council's response indicated the cancelled projects were merely potential proposals without completed business cases, describing their removal as 'future cost avoidance' rather than actual savings.
