Italian Police Fire Tear Gas at Protesters Near Winter Olympics Venue in Milan
Italian police used tear gas and water cannon against protesters who threw firecrackers, smoke bombs, and bottles near a Winter Olympics venue in Milan. Around 10,000 people had joined a larger demonstration against housing costs and the environmental impact of the Games, but a smaller splinter group turned violent while trying to reach the Santagiulia ice hockey rink. Six people were arrested. Authorities also reported coordinated sabotage on rail lines that disrupted train services.
