US will remove Turkey sanctions for buying Russian missiles, Trump says

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that the US plans to remove sanctions placed on Turkey after it bought a Russian missile defence system. He met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara for the NATO summit and confirmed that government ministers were addressing the issue. Turkey's participation in the F-35 fighter jet programme ended in 2019 because of the purchase.
