France Towns Break May Heat Records
Residents across western Europe faced dangerous early heat, with some runners taken to hospital and officials warning people to take care. Weather agencies said on Monday that temperatures in parts of Spain could touch 40C later this week, while Britain logged a May peak of 33.5C near London. Thirty-one French départements were placed under alerts, including eight at the second-highest level.
