UK: 1 in 3 use AI for support.
The AI Security Institute released its first comprehensive report revealing that one in three UK adults use artificial intelligence for emotional support and social interaction, with one in 25 people seeking AI companionship daily. The study surveyed over 2,000 participants and found ChatGPT was the primary platform used, followed by Amazon's Alexa. Researchers identified concerning patterns when AI services failed, with users experiencing withdrawal-like symptoms including anxiety and depression. The report also highlighted rapid advances in AI capabilities across cybersecurity and scientific fields, while noting concerns about potential over-dependence on AI relationships.
