Iran cuts internet nationwide as economic protests spread
Widespread internet disruption occurred across Iran on Thursday. For twelve days, protests have taken place in over 100 cities. Demonstrations, which began in late December due to economic difficulties and high inflation, now include demands for a change of government. Rights organisations report over 42 deaths and more than 2,200 arrests. Security forces are said to have used live rounds against protesters, especially in western regions. The internet shutdown followed calls for coordinated evening protests.
