Labour reduces accessibility target for new homes.
The Labour government has reduced new-build accessibility targets from 100 percent under Conservative plans to just 40 percent of new homes meeting M4(2) adaptable standards, with no targets for wheelchair-accessible housing. Disabled rights campaigners called this a 'truly horrifying' betrayal, noting that 91 percent of existing homes lack basic accessibility features. Over 15 months after taking power, Labour has still not fulfilled election promises to strengthen accessibility standards despite 1.8 million disabled people requiring accessible housing.
