Bank of England plans Sunday payment system hours

Weekend bank transfers could become faster under plans to expand settlement services beyond normal working days. The Bank of England said it aims to extend operating hours for RTGS and CHAPS systems to Sundays and selected bank holidays from 2029 onwards. Officials said the changes support payment innovation and newer digital money systems including tokenised deposits and stablecoins.
