BoE warns: Food price caps could make groceries costlier
Shoppers could face higher long-term costs if ministers limit grocery prices, Bank of England officials told MPs. Andrew Bailey and Swati Dhingra criticised proposed food controls on Wednesday after Rachel Reeves stepped back from plans following objections from retailers. Reports said supermarkets had discussed voluntary limits on bread, milk and eggs with the Treasury during talks about easing household living pressures nationwide.
