UK dropping planned steel tariffs for manufacturers
The UK is backing off its plan to double steel tariffs because many businesses warned it would make their costs shoot up. Ministers had announced in March that tariffs on imported steel would rise to 50% from 1 July, trying to help UK steelmakers. Now, specific sectors or companies that import steel not made domestically might get formal exemptions.
