Motor racing now reaches palaeontology too, with scientists linking a prehistoric insect discovery to Formula 1. Researchers studying a fossil insect preserved in Burmese amber from northern Myanmar gave the extinct species the scientific title Gwesped piastrii after McLaren driver Oscar Piastri. Reports indicate the specimen measures either approximately 2.3 mm or 1.15 mm, and it dates from the middle Cretaceous period, residing in a Chinese academy collection.
