Scientists confirm 2025 as third hottest year on record

Global temperatures continue to rise, with 2025 now confirmed as the third warmest year ever recorded. The average temperature reached 1.47 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. Notably, the three-year period spanning 2023 to 2025 surpassed the 1.5C Paris Agreement threshold for the first time. This sustained warming, despite a weakening El Niño, fuelled extreme weather events worldwide. The last eleven years represent the eleven hottest years documented.
