Ofwat Orders £260m Customer Refund as Water Firms Miss Pollution Targets

Ofwat has ordered water companies in England and Wales to refund over £260 million to customers after failing pollution and flooding targets in 2024-25. The regulator’s annual report found widespread underperformance, with only Portsmouth Water rated “leading” and five firms — including Thames, Southern and Yorkshire Water — “lagging behind.” The refunds mark the final year of the 2020-25 period, during which more than £700 million has been returned to customers.
