UK Government Introduces Legal Protections for AI Safety Testing to Combat Child Abuse Image Creation
On 12 November 2025, the UK government proposed amendments to the Crime and Policing Bill, granting selected AI firms and child protection groups, including the Internet Watch Foundation, legal authority to assess AI models for risks of generating child sexual abuse content before public release. This legislative move follows a surge in reported AI-created child abuse images, which rose from 199 in 2024 to 426 in 2025, according to IWF figures.
