England councils may lose third of pothole funds
Road repairs could suffer if funding is cut when councils fail checks on how money is used. The Department for Transport said that authorities must prove effective spending or risk losing up to a third of support for fixing roads. About £525 million of a £1.6 billion budget for 2026/27 will be withheld unless councils meet the new conditions.
