Deputy PM Lammy Urges Labour Not to Change Leader Now
Even as Labour MPs called for Starmer to go, his deputy moved to hold the line publicly. David Lammy urged the party not to play pass the parcel with the leadership following the results. Labour sources noted that Tony Blair lost 1,100 councillors in 1999 but still won re-election in a landslide in 2001.
