Two million Muslims begin Mecca pilgrimage
An obligatory religious duty and a fundamental pillar of Islam, the Hajj pilgrimage is incumbent upon many adult Muslims worldwide. The annual sacred pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia is currently drawing close to two million worshippers. During Dhul Hujjah, pilgrims perform rituals like circling the Kaaba, where temperatures have been noted to surpass 40 degrees Celsius.
