Meta platforms used for child trafficking investigation finds
Children faced exploitation risks as social media tools were used to target and sell victims online. A Guardian investigation found traffickers used Facebook and Instagram features such as private messaging and stories to advertise and exploit minors, with activity often not detected by the company. The reporting led to a New Mexico case where Meta was ordered to pay $375m in penalties.
