UK energy bills to increase in January
Energy Minister Michael Shanks admitted there is 'no shortcut' to cutting bills after Ofgem announced a 0.2% price cap rise to £1,758 from January, defying predictions of a decrease. The government conceded Labour's election pledge to save £300 on bills has not been delivered, with energy costs remaining 35% higher than pre-Ukraine war levels. Despite renewable sources providing over half of UK electricity, Britain has among the highest domestic and the highest industrial electricity prices among developed nations.
