Starmer seeks cuts to fund defence rise
Public services could face tighter budgets as ministers look for savings to pay for higher military spending. Keir Starmer is pushing for a £15bn increase in defence funding and departments have been asked to trim 1 per cent from capital budgets, with plans expected before the Nato summit in July. Energy and transport are among the areas likely to see the biggest reductions by 2030.
