Asylum seekers who break the law to lose government housing
Asylum seekers who break the law or work illegally in the UK will be removed from taxpayer-funded accommodation and lose their support payments from June, the Home Office has announced. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said the current statutory duty to house all asylum seekers would be replaced with a conditional entitlement, removing support from those who can support themselves but choose not to, or who have broken UK law. The government said the aim is to make the UK a less attractive destination for illegal migrants.
