15 killed as Bolivian Air Force plane hits road in El Alto

A Bolivian Air Force Hercules C-130 carrying newly printed banknotes crashed onto a busy road in El Alto on 27 February after landing and veering off the runway, according to Defence Minister Marcelo Salinas. Fire Chief Pavel Tovar confirmed at least 15 people died and around 30 were injured, with at least 15 vehicles struck. Firefighters extinguished flames engulfing the aircraft, while police used water hoses to disperse crowds gathering to collect banknotes scattered across the road. El Alto International Airport was temporarily closed following the incident.
