OpenAI names London its biggest research hub outside US
OpenAI announced Thursday that London will become its largest research hub outside the United States. The company opened its first international office there in 2023 and now employs over 30 researchers in the city, who will lead key frontier AI model development including safety work. Chief research officer Mark Chen cited the UK's talent base and universities as key reasons. Science and Technology Secretary Liz Kendall called the move a "huge vote of confidence" in UK AI.
