Afghan national shoots two guardsmen in Washington D.C.

On November 26, 2025, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan asylum seeker, critically wounded two West Virginia National Guard members near the White House. Another guard shot and apprehended Lakanwal. President Trump called it terror, adding 500 troops. Officials announced indefinite suspension of Afghan immigration processing. Lakanwal arrived in the US in 2021 and received asylum in April 2025.
