UK must go nuclear-independent from US, says Ed Davey
Britain's national defence could be strengthened by ending its reliance on the United States for nuclear deterrent upkeep and parts. Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey called for this change at his party's spring conference in York, citing concerns over a less dependable US ally. He proposes developing Britain's own Trident maintenance and creating a fully British-made alternative by the 2040s.
