Leeds Tram Network Delayed Until Late 2030s Following Government Review
West Yorkshire's long-awaited mass transit network has been delayed from the early 2030s to the late 2030s after an independent government review. The £2.5 billion project will connect Leeds with Bradford, making it the UK's largest local transport project. Mayor Tracy Brabin maintains construction will still begin by 2028, despite the setback affecting Britain's fourth-largest city, which remains the largest in Western Europe without mass transit. The delay follows previous failed attempts, including the cancelled Supertram project in 2005.
