Explained in plain English

Why threaten 'own land'?

Threatening to bomb one's own territory is a drastic measure, often called a 'scorched earth' tactic. It's a way to make an invasion incredibly costly and undesirable for an enemy, showing extreme resolve. Iran's statement aims to deter a potential US ground operation by signalling they would rather destroy infrastructure than allow it to be used by an occupying force.
