Why no tuition fees?

Scottish students don't pay tuition fees for undergraduate degrees at Scottish universities, unlike students in the rest of the UK. This policy, introduced in 2001, aims to make higher education more accessible. However, the government funding provided to universities to cover these costs hasn't kept pace with the actual cost of teaching, leading to the current funding gap.
