Explained in plain English

Why is the EU involved?

The European Union (EU) is a political and economic union of 27 member states, often acting as a major diplomatic player. It can impose sanctions, provide humanitarian aid, and deploy peacekeeping missions, independently or in support of UN efforts. Its call for dialogue with the AU shows a coordinated international push to de-escalate the situation in Ethiopia.
