Eritrea has requested that the UN Security Council censure Ethiopia's actions and implement preventative steps as outlined in Chapter VII of the UN Charter. Chapter VII enables the council to levy sanctions and approve additional enforcement actions against Ethiopia. The African Union and European Union have also urged restraint and dialogue to prevent a wider regional conflict.
