Why do STIs spread?

STIs, or sexually transmitted infections, are caused by bacteria, viruses, or parasites. They spread through unprotected sexual contact, but as the story highlights, they don't always show symptoms in the genital area. This can make them harder to spot and treat early, increasing the risk of transmission to others.
