Why do F1 cars slow down?

F1 car performance can drop for several reasons, even if the car was initially fast. Rivals might develop better upgrades, track conditions could favour different car designs, or the team might struggle to optimise their car's setup for specific races. Mercedes' performance dip since May, despite being fastest earlier, suggests these factors are at play, compounded by their slower upgrade rate.
