Why are so many English teams in?

The number of teams a country can send to the Champions League depends on their performance in European competitions over recent seasons. England's Premier League has been particularly strong, earning extra spots. This is why five English clubs – Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Liverpool – are all participating this year.
