Who rescues people at sea?

When a vessel is in trouble in UK waters, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) coordinates the rescue. They deploy their own helicopters and planes, and call on volunteer organisations like the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) for their lifeboats. International cooperation, like with French fishing boats in this Channel incident, is also common.
