Who picks the Assembly?

The Assembly of Experts is a powerful body in Iran, responsible for supervising the Supreme Leader and even removing them if necessary. Its members are elected by public vote every eight years, but candidates must first be approved by another body, the Guardian Council. This system means the Assembly is often seen as loyal to the existing leadership.
