The Bayeux Tapestry was likely commissioned by Bishop Odo of Bayeux, William the Conqueror's half-brother. He was a powerful figure who probably wanted to commemorate William's conquest of England and his own role in it. This grand display, now being opened by King Charles and President Macron, was a very effective piece of Norman propaganda.
