Explained in plain English

Who built the Channel Tunnel?

The Channel Tunnel was a joint project between the UK and French governments, built by two separate construction consortia working from each side. The 'Chunnel', as it's often called, opened in 1994, connecting Folkestone and Coquelles. This massive engineering feat paved the way for services like the new Virgin cross-Channel trains planned for 2030.
