Who are FTSE 100 and 250?

The FTSE 100 tracks the 100 largest companies listed on the London Stock Exchange by market value, while the FTSE 250 follows the next 250 largest. These indices act as a barometer for the UK economy. When they climb, as in the story, it generally signals a positive outlook, even if it's only a slight increase.
