What's the difference with LED?

LED screens use a backlight to illuminate their pixels, meaning even 'black' areas still have some light. OLED, like the new iPad Mini might have, means each pixel generates its own light. This allows for perfect blacks, incredible contrast, and more vibrant colours, as pixels can be completely switched off.
