Explained in plain English

What's a loan deal in football?

Football clubs sometimes let players join another team temporarily. This is called a loan. The player gains experience or game time, and the borrowing club gets a player without a long-term commitment. In Rashford's case, Barcelona had an option to buy him permanently, but decided not to.
