What is Diamond Light Source?

Diamond Light Source is a huge scientific facility at the Harwell Campus, near RAL. It's a national synchrotron science facility, essentially a giant microscope that uses powerful X-rays to study materials at an atomic level. Scientists use it for everything from developing new medicines to designing stronger aircraft parts.
