What is Baltic air policing?

Baltic air policing is a NATO mission to patrol the airspace over Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, as these countries do not have the air capabilities to do so themselves. Other NATO members take turns providing fighter jets and personnel for this defensive task. In this story, Turkish F-16s, part of this mission, were scrambled to respond to the drones, demonstrating its ongoing importance.
