What is a viral infection?

A viral infection occurs when a virus enters the body and multiplies, causing illness. Viruses are tiny infectious agents that can only reproduce inside living cells. Hepatitis A is one such virus that targets liver cells. Unlike bacterial infections, which can sometimes be treated with antibiotics, viral infections often require the body's immune system to fight them off.
