What is a pupillage?

A pupillage is the final, practical stage of training to become a barrister. It's like an apprenticeship, typically lasting one year, where a trainee (a pupil) shadows an experienced barrister. The government's new scheme funds 100 extra pupillages annually to boost the number of new criminal barristers.
