What is a power outage?

A power outage, or blackout, is when the supply of electricity to an area is interrupted. This can happen for many reasons, including damage to electrical infrastructure from fires, as was the case near Gatwick where over 2,000 homes lost power. Outages can disrupt daily life, affecting heating, lighting, and communication.
